It says guayule is one of the five plants with surprising super powers and is providing a boost to technological innovation with a green lining. </p>
<p>Other crops that made the cut are: algae and its production of biofuels, corn and its ability to produce plastic, cockleburs and velcro derived from the plant, and the lotus plant the Lotus Effect.</p>

The article opens with a bird&#8217;s eye view over the Amazon rain forest as ranchers and farmers are doubling deforestation this year because biofuels have jacked up global crop prices. But, the Amazon is a storehouse for carbon and deforestation only accelerates global warming. Experts are calling it the &#8217;savannization&#8217; of the Amazon.
