Yuma, Arizona names Guayule its Crop of the Week

Guayule seedlingKurt Nolte, an agriculture agent and Yuma County Cooperative Extension director, picked guayule to spotlight in the Yuma Sun as his Crop of the Week. He writes:

Clean new technologies make it possible to extract natural rubber, latex, ethanol, non-toxic adhesives and other specialty chemicals from guayule….

Yulex Corp. has been positioning Arizona as the epicenter of a new domestic industry based on guayule.”

According to the article, an estimated 50 to 100 acres of guayule are grown in the Yuma area, which is one of several agricultural districts in Arizona producing guayule for Yulex Corporation.
